Frequently Asked Questions

What is a 'Low Resolution' CD?...
A low resolution CD is intended for viewing images of your session as 'proofs'.  Prior to the advent of digital photography, the client would be given  the images miniaturized on an 8" x 10" 'proof' sheet (usually between 10 to 12 images).  The pictures were not cropped or ready for final processing, they were 'as shot' during the photo session. The client would select the images that they wanted to have enlarged from the 'proof' sheet and place their order for finished photographs.  This process of 'proofing' usually took one to two weeks.  With a low resolution CD, you can view all of your images within a day or two of your session.  The images on your low resolution CD can be viewed and e-mailed to friends and family.  The size of the images are small, usually less than 20 kilobytes and look good on a computer monitor but they do not reproduce well in print (due to the small file size).  Please note that all images are 'watermarked'.

What is a 'Watermark'?...
A watermark is a photographer's trademark.  It is a 'Logo' that is put on all images to prevent unauthorized reproduction.

What is a 'Proof'?...
A proof is an image that has not been processed for final printing.  They can be purchased as 4" x 6" photo prints.  They are intended for use as 'previewing' or for selection of images for ordering final prints.

What's the difference between a 'proof' and a 'print'?...
A proof is an untouched image, one that has no colour adjustment, digital touch-ups or cropping and is 'watermarked'.  A print is an image that has been processed with all the required cropping, colour adjustment and digital touch-ups.  A print is produced from a much higher resolution image. This allows enlargements of almost any size without losing quality. It has no watermark and is ready for framing.
